STAR WARS: Ubisoft's Open-World Video Game May Be Heading Our Way MUCH Sooner Than Expected

We've been hearing rumblings for some time that Ubisoft is developing an open-world Star Wars video game, but a new report confirms it may be heading our way quite a bit sooner than we ever anticipated...

A number of Star Wars video games are in various stages of development, but one of them could be with us much sooner than anticipated.

According to Kotaku, the open-world game is currently targeting an early 2024 release date as the company looks to deliver a surefire hit following a year of delays and development issues. This news comes just days after Ubisoft announced its biggest-ever operating loss, though it was mentioned at the time that "another large game" would join Assassin’s Creed: Mirage and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Skull and Bones in the next 12 months.

Now, sources tell the site this is indeed the untitled Star Wars game first revealed in early 2021.

Massive, the team behind The Division series, was tasked with developing the project - codenamed Project Helix - though we've heard it will be completely different from the previous titles they've worked on.

More troubling is the fact two sources have informed the site that work on the game has not been progressing well despite internal hopes it'll be Ubisoft's first non-Assassin's Creed-sized hit in several years. With that in mind, this release date is incredibly optimistic and the game - which reportedly features interplanetary space travel - will probably slip further into 2024 and perhaps even 2025.

All Ubisoft would say in regards to these claims is, "We don’t comment on rumors or speculation."

More details about the company's release schedule are expected to drop during a summer showcase on June 12. There's previously been speculation that this game might somehow be tied to The Mandalorian and, if correct, we're sure that alone will guarantee its status as a hit.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was recently released by EA and received mostly very positive reviews. More developers are being given the chance to work on the franchise now, though, and we hope to have more details to share with you soon.
