While Pedro Pascal lends his voice (and face) to Din Djarin in The Mandalorian, it's Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder who don the iconic armour on set.
Earlier this year, we learned that Lucasfilm has decided to move forward with The Mandalorian & Grogu, a big screen adventure for the beloved duo which is seemingly replacing The Mandalorian season 4. The news has excited and disappointed fans in equal measure, but hope remains that those episodes will eventually reach Disney+.
Wayne recently talked about his work in the Star Wars Galaxy and confirmed recent rumours about when cameras will begin rolling on The Mandalorian & Grogu.
"What I keep hearing everywhere is it’s [filming beginning in] June," he says in the video below. "I think Jon [Favreau] said June." Wayne said he "knows everything [that will happen in the movie]," adding, "they couldn’t have greenlit something without a script."
Despite being unable to share specifics, when the actor and stuntman was asked whether a fourth season of The Mandalorian will happen, he added, "No [Season 4]. I know that we’re doing a movie for sure, that’s what I know."
It's previously been reported that Favreau's scripts for season 4 evolved into a movie after last year's WGA strikes. However, as The Mandalorian is such a big draw on Disney+, new episodes could still follow somewhere down the line. Only time will tell.
Wayne was also quick to make it clear this movie isn't being rushed out as some sort of cash grab. "I will tell you, honestly, like Jon [Favreau] would never do that. I understand production, like the studio, being like, 'Hey, you're doing a movie, not doing season 4?' If that's how it occurred. That's fair, because it's in their best interest."
"They make more money off a movie, it's not even close. It's not even close! But Jon loves and honors everything he does, but specifically Star Wars, because for him, it means something beyond this moment," he added. "He would never do something half-assed. It matters too much to him. And [Dave] Filoni would never let it happen."
Disney needs some guaranteed box office hits after a rough couple of years and The Mandalorian & Grogu is bound to succeed in that respect. Both characters are massively popular with hardcore and casual fans, and it will be interesting to see what sort of story this movie tells and whether it justifies the leap from streaming to theaters.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled to be released in 2026, meaning there will be a three-year gap between season 3 and that big screen release.
