We can finally say that The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives in theaters next month, and new standees based on the movie have revealed a fresh look at the movie's leads and some intriguing droid villains.
In the former camp, we have Din Djarin, The Child, Colonel Ward, and Zeb Orrelios. We also catch sight of various Stormtrooper variations, with these Imperial remnants all expected to factor heavily into an extended action sequence on Hoth.
The biggest talking point is three droids, at least two of which originated in the Star Wars prequels. One is a B1-series Battle Droid that we know from previous merchandise drops will be a "Guard Droid" that pilots a "Mercenary STAP."
The B2-series super battle droid looks suitably formidable, and we can likely expect this trio to either be bounty hunters or, more likely, part of the team that protects the Twins (Jabba the Hutt's cousins, last seen in The Book of Boba Fett).
Interestingly, there's no sign of them, Rotta the Hutt, or Embo, The Clone Wars era bounty hunter who will seemingly prove himself more than a match for Din Djarin in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Some new promo posters have also been revealed, which can be seen below.
"The Mandalorian has changed his priorities," director Jon Favreau recently revealed. "One of the last things we say [in Season 3] is, like, 'I don’t want to go out there and just be a hired gun. I want to work for the good guys.' Now we get to really have fun with him. He’s such a compelling character, even if you’ve never seen Rebels, between the voice, the swagger, and the physical ability."
The filmmaker added, "That central relationship, as they go off and face adventure together, that’s the underpinning of the film. Star Wars is always about progression and growth and characters evolving, sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad. It’s about apprenticeship, it’s about one generation teaching the next. There’s more growth that happens over the course of the film."
In The Mandalorian and Grogu, the evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
Directed by Jon Favreau, the movie also stars Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White. It's produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson.
The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22.
