The Mandalorian and Grogu grossed only $345.2 million at the global box office, making The Mandalorian follow-up the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie to date, despite largely positive reviews from fans and critics.
If you skipped Din Djarin and The Child's latest adventure in theaters, then we have some good news for you today: Lucasfilm has announced when the blockbuster will be available to watch at home for free (assuming you're already a Disney+ subscriber, of course).
The Mandalorian and Grogu officially premieres on Disney+ on September 2, a little over a week after it's released on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray.
This may say a lot about how Disney views physical media, as a one-week window suggests those copies are primarily available for collectors, not the masses who will likely tune in on streaming.
During a recent earnings call, new Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro acknowledged that The Mandalorian and Grogu underperformed at the box office. However, he pointed to The Mandalorian and Grogu still being a win for the company, at least in terms of toy sales and theme park attendance.
"Even when our franchise films don’t meet our box office expectations, as with The Mandalorian and Grogu and the live-action Moana, our investments in these core properties fuel other parts of our company," D'Amaro told investors. "The Mandalorian and Grogu drove healthy growth in retail sales for the Star Wars franchise."
"[It] drew guests to the updated Millennium Falcon attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and led to significant engagement in gaming as well," he concluded.
In The Mandalorian and Grogu, the evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
Directed by Jon Favreau, the movie also stars Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White. It's produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is now available on Digital platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango. The movie arrives on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on August 25.
