There have long been theories about what The Mandalorian's title might be referring to.

Common sense says it's a nod to lead character Din Djarin, though many fans believe Grogu is "The Mandalorian" and that we're following his journey from adorable sidekick to becoming the being that can truly reunite Mandalore. Heck, he may even be the one that combines their customs with those of the Jedi (as Tarre Vizsla once did before him).

Season 3 has largely shifted the spotlight away from those two, with the focus instead put on Bo-Katan Kryze. She's caught a glimpse of the legendary Mythosaur and had the Darksaber returned to her after being tasked by The Armorer to reunite Mandalore.

So, could Bo-Katan be "The Mandalorian"?

During an interview with Screen Rant at Star Wars Celebration this weekend, executive producer and director Rick Famuyiwa addressed the theory and strongly hinted that Din is not the character the Disney+ TV show's title refers to.

"I think now with Bo possessing the Darksaber, I know that there was a lot of expectations that might have shifted both in terms of what it meant for Din Djarin, but also for Bo and what does it mean?" the filmmaker teased. "Who is the Mandalorian at this point? And so I think it could be anyone."

"And I think that's what they're trying to define in many ways, is what does that mean to be Mandalorian?"

Famuyiwa directed the final two episodes of season 3 and a select number of fans who attended Star Wars Celebration this weekend were treated to an early screening of the penultimate instalment that's since generated a lot of buzz online. A seven-minute clip from that was also shown during Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase panel which featured some major developments.

Regardless of who "The Mandalorian" may or may not be, we're sure the next couple of weeks will clear things up to some extent, especially after what we saw with the Darksaber in last Wednesday's divisive effort.
