This week's episode of The Mandalorian definitely wasn't what we expected, with the focus shifted from Din Djarin and Grogu to Doctor Pershing on Coruscant.
Exploring how those who once served the Empire found redemption courtesy of the New Republic, we followed Pershing as he attempted to continue his cloning research. While his intentions were noble, he'd end up being arrested and betrayed by Elia Kane, another of Moff Gideon's former loyalists who still appears to be serving the villain in secret.
We're still not sure what all that is leading to, but "The Convert" proved surprisingly divisive among Star Wars fans. Some loved the Andor-style diversion, while others have been critical about the spotlight being shifted away from the show's leads.
It feels like this must have been an important part of the story Jon Favreau is telling in The Mandalorian, though, and one popular theory is that it's a subplot pulled from the scrapped Rangers of the New Republic spin-off.
Whatever the case may be, that trip to Coruscant and the bookends featuring Mando meant we got the show's longest episode to date at nearly an hour. Unfortunately, this Wednesday's Chapter 20 promises to be the shortest!
According to a number of sources, it's going to clock in at a mere 30 minutes and 39 seconds.
That includes the credits too, and seeing as they take up a good few minutes, this is going to be a very brief instalment of the Disney+ series.
As per usual, no details have been revealed as of yet, but one possibility is that this episode of The Mandalorian will finally take us back to the night of Order 66 when Grogu escaped from the Jedi Temple. That backstory won't necessarily need a lot of time, but could help lay the groundwork for what's to come as this season progresses. Plus, Dave Filoni is co-writing.
Stay tuned for updates.
