THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Director Taika Waititi's STAR WARS Movie May Be Coming Way Sooner Than He's Claimed

Despite repeated claims that his Star Wars movie may not happen, a new report suggests Taika Waititi has been trolling us all! Why? Well, cameras on the project could start rolling much sooner than expected.

In recent weeks, Taika Waititi has been doing the rounds to promote both Lightyear and Thor: Love and Thunder. Inevitably, the actor and filmmaker has been asked about the Star Wars movie he's developing for Lucasfilm, though was quick on several occasions to make it clear he's nowhere near done finished writing.

Asked whether it will even see the light of day (given Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy's penchant for cancelling projects), he even stated, "If it’s not ready, it’s not ready. [With] Star Wars, I don’t want to rush. It’s something I wouldn’t want to just leap into and not feel that it’s unique, it’s my film, and it makes sense. Because that would be a disaster. I’m writing at the moment. So I’m gonna do my best to come up with an idea that everyone loves."

Now, though, we have a very intriguing update courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter.

Despite Waititi making it sound like his trip to a Galaxy Far, Far Away is far from a sure thing, it could be that the filmmaker has deliberately misled us all in an effort to avoid giving anything away about his Star Wars plans. He likes to have fun while dealing with the press, and this is definitely a unique way to keep the secretive project under wraps.

"Taika's Star Wars project may be coming your way sooner than some of his interviews let on," the site explains. "Multiple sources tell us that the project is eyeing an early 2023 start. God knows plans can shift with Lucasfilm, is the usual caveat, of course."

We don't think the movie will be in theaters by next Christmas, but if cameras really are going to start rolling by early next year, there's every chance it will be with us in time for May The Fourth in 2024!

One thing we do know is that Waititi's Star Wars movie won't be about Chewbacca's grandmother...
