Very little has been revealed about Disney+'s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, though we expect it to follow Jude Law's mystery character along with a group of children who end up being lost in the Galaxy.
Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and Christopher Ford (Chaos Walking) are developing the project under Jon Favreau's watch, with the story set to play out in the same timeframe as The Mandalorian.
Recently, a number of noteworthy filmmakers have been added to the series, including The Daniels (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and David Lowery (The Green Knight). Now, One Take News has added another name to the list in Jake Schrier, the filmmaker who has been tasked with helming Thunderbolts for Marvel Studios.
He's no stranger to television work after previously directing episodes of Kidding, The Premise, and Minx. On the big screen, he's been behind the camera for Robot & Frank and Paper Towns. Schrier's latest project, meanwhile, is Netflix's Beef starring Steven Yuen (who is expected to play The Sentry in Thunderbolts).
Initially, Skeleton Crew didn't generate much in the way of excitement from fans. However, with filmmakers like these shooting the action, we have a feeling it will be right up there with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor.
"The groups that are working on ['Skeleton Crew'] are led by Jon Watts, whom I collaborated with on all the 'Spider-Man' movies," Jon Favreau previously said of the series. "This has been a real fun time and the great filmmakers that he’s engaged with have been bringing their perspectives as well."
We're definitely intrigued by this series, and expect it to be more than just a fun diversion from the other stories being told on Disney+. In fact, there are rumblings that it will even tie into shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, so it's likely a key part of whatever Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have planned for this corner of the Galaxy.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is still expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
