Ahsoka didn't provide the answers many of us hoped for, meaning we'll have to wait to learn what Grand Admiral Thrawn has transported from Peridea and the identity of the mysterious force which calls to Baylan Skoll (and those are just two of many cliffhangers).
At this past April's Star Wars Celebration, it was confirmed Dave Filoni will helm a Star Wars movie bringing together characters from all the Disney+ TV shows.
While that seems like the natural next destination for the story the Ahsoka showrunner is telling, there's currently an awful lot of story to cram into it. It's a good job then that all signs point to Ahsoka season 2 heading our way before that big screen crossover.
According to Deadline, "Some fans have speculated that Dave Filoni's standalone feature film...is poised to be next. However, we hear that Ahsoka season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, but nothing is locked yet."
Unfortunately, it sounds like the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike has slowed development on that front, meaning that while Ahsoka season 2 looks likely, nothing is currently set in stone. However, based on some of the hints scattered throughout the finale, both James Mangold's and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy could also be tied to whatever Filoni has up his sleeve.
After all, it would make sense for the former to delve into the origins of the Force by revealing more about The Mortis Gods, while there are bound to be some lingering plot threads from this post-Return of the Jedi era which Rey can deal with (a lot of fans are convinced Grogu will make an appearance there).
In related news, Lucasfilm has just released a promo and a handful of spoiler stills for the Ahsoka finale which you can check out below.
Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, the series stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.
Ahsoka was written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa.
Seven of eight episodes of Ahsoka are now streaming on Disney+.
