Three years ago, Apple struck a deal with Vince Gilligan for a two-season straight-to-series order series starring Better Call Saul alum Rhea Seehorn. This week, the eagerly anticipated show will be revealed.
On social media, Apple TV posted the first teaser for the untitled new show. "Happiness is Contagious," the streamer wrote alongside an image of a smiley face carved into a petri dish with a q-tip.
On YouTube, there's video counting down to 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday, July 25th, which is presumably when the show will be fully unveiled.
Exact plot details have remained under wraps but Seehorn previously described the series as “sci-fi but in a more psychological kind of sci-fi way.”
“I can’t wait for it to come out though,” the Better Call Saul actress told Deadline earlier this year. “Some of the stuff that audiences have loved about his writing where it’s really rich characters but also him playing with the idea of tropes and genres and tone, and switching, like injected humor in a very dark moment — in this new show, he pushes that to a limit that was both very thought-provoking and upsetting sometimes, and other times, so, so funny. It really swings for the fences. I had so much fun.”
Gilligan, who created the series and serves as executive producer and showrunner, admitted that he wrote this series specifically for Seehorn.
“She’s such a pleasure to work with, I wrote a show for her. I created this new show for her," said Gilligan back in February, offering some vague details about Seehorn's character. “I’m excited for audiences to see Rhea play a very different character than the character she played on Better Call Saul. She plays someone who’s trying very hard to be good. She’s a bit of a damaged hero, but she’s a hero nonetheless. And it’s just a pleasure to work with her because she’s just the best, and she is so sweet and kind and talented. I can’t say enough good about her.”
Seehorn starred as Kim Wexler in the Breaking Bad spin-off, earning an Emmy nomination for her work on the show. She's also had roles in Veep, Franklin and Bash, and Whitney.
Be sure to check back on Friday for what we assume will be the big reveal for this highly anticipated new show from Vince Gilligan.
