We've known for a long time now that the King of Monsters is coming to streaming and Apple TV+ has finally revealed our first look at Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Godzilla's name may be absent from the show's official title but he's front and centre in stills which also highlight Mari Yamamoto, Kurt Russell, and Wyatt Russell. It's now been confirmed that the father and son won't share the screen as they're both playing the same character during different time periods.
Monarch is the S.H.I.E.L.D.-like organisation tasked with keeping track of the world's Titans; they previously appeared in Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
"Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real," reads the synopsis for the 10-episode series, "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch."
"Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga - spanning three generations - reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives."
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters also stars Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.
Developed by Chris Black (Severance) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), the first two episodes were helmed by WandaVision and Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman. Unfortunately, these first-look images weren't accompanied by a premiere date.
Stay tuned for updates on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as we have them.
