Apple TV+ has announced that its epic sci-fi adaptation, Foundation, is set to return to the streaming service for its second season on July 14, and the first full trailer is now online.

Based on Isaac Asimov's series of novels, the first season followed a mathematician named Hari Seldon (Jared Harris) who discovers a way to predict the future using his equations. When he foresaw the imminent fall of the Galactic Empire (no, not that one), he incurred the wrath of a group of emperor clones known as the Cleons led by Brother Day (Lee Pace).

Season 2 will pick up over a century after the season 1 finale, with tension mounting throughout the galaxy. As the Cleons unravel, a vengeful queen plots to destroy Empire from within. Hari, Gaal, and Salvor discover a colony of Mentalics with psionic abilities that threaten to alter psychohistory itself.

The Foundation has entered its religious phase, promulgating the Church of Seldon throughout the Outer Reach and inciting the Second Crisis: war with Empire. The monumental adaptation of “Foundation” chronicles the stories of four crucial individuals transcending space and time as they overcome deadly crises, shifting loyalties and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.

Harris and Pace will reprise their respective roles, along with fellow returning cast members Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton and Terrence Mann. New recruits include Isabella Laughland (Brother Constant), Kulvinder Ghir (Poly Verisof), Ella-Rae Smith (Queen Sareth of Cloud Dominion), Holt McCallany (Warden Jaegger Fount), Rachel House (Tellem Bond), Nimrat Kaur (Yanna Seldon), Ben Daniels (Bel Riose), and Dimitri Leonidas (Hober Mallow).
