Legendary Pictures is said to be in the midst of searching for a new partner after Warner Bros.' controversial streaming release schedule last year, and that may go some way in explaining why an upcoming MonsterVerse TV series is heading to Apple TV+ rather than HBO Max.
Regardless, the show has attracted an impressive ensemble that includes Anna Sawai (F9), Ren Watabe (461 Days of Bento), Kiersey Clemons (The Flash), Joe Tippett (Mare of Easttown), Elisa Lasowski (Versailles), Kurt Russell (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), and Mari Yamamoto (Pachinko).
Now, we have a first look to go along with that recently confirmed list of actors.
As you can see, the Monarch logo is front and centre (which lines up with what we've heard about the series), as are various pieces of imagery suggesting a conspiracy will be at the heart of the series. While it explores the aftermath of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, that kaiju's confirmed role in the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel makes us think we could see him return here too.
Cameras have been rolling for a while, so we're hoping that a proper first look is imminent. For now, we're sure MonsterVerse fans will enjoy trying to unearth any new clues!
The still untitled project will take place in the aftermath of the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that levelled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, with the focus put on one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.
Legendary Television is producing this MonsterVerse TV series that was co-created by Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), with the former serving as showrunner. WandaVision's Matt Shakman will direct the first two episodes - we're assuming he'll then move straight on to Fantastic Four - and serve as an executive producer.
