We first heard about plans for an Orphan Black follow-up earlier this year, and THR eports that AMC has now set Jessica Jones alum Krysten Ritter to play the lead.
Orphan Black: Echoes will serve as a sequel to the critically-acclaimed sci-fi series, with Ritter playing a woman named Lucy "with an unimaginable origin story who is trying to find her place in the world."
Specific plot details are still under wraps, but a brief logline tells is to expect a "deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. The series revolves around a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal."
Anna Fishko (The Society) is on board as creator, writer, showrunner and exec producer, while John Fawcett, who co-created the original series, will exec producer and direct. Boat Rocker’s David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, who also worked on the original series, will be back as executive producers alongside Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard.
Ritter will probably be best known for playing hard-drinking private eye Jessica Jones in the now defunct Netflix series, but she has also appeared in the likes of The Girl in the Woods, Nightbooks, Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23 and Love and Death
