At Apple TV's inaugural Press Day, Vince Gilligan provided fans with an update on Pluribus Season 2. Appearing at a panel alongside star Rhea Seehorn and members of the ensemble, including Karolina Wydra, Carlos Manuel Vesga and Samba Schutte, Gilligan confirmed that writing is currently underway on Season 2 of the critically acclaimed series. But despite "plugging away" on the script, it may be a while until Season 2 premieres.
“We’re plugging away,” Gilligan said when asked where he currently is in the process of writing Pluribus' sophomore season. “My writers are plugging away. All the folks, if you like the show, thank you for getting us here on this stage."
"It takes a long time to come up with these episodes," he continued. "We are deeper into the process at this moment than I would like, considering how few episodes we have figured out. But it takes some time, just as it did the first season.”
Gilligan first pitched Pluribus after Better Call Saul ended in August 2022, and Apple TV+ ordered the series with a two-season commitment in September 2022. Formal development, writing, and filming went from late 2022 through 2024 with the first season premiering in November 2025.
Gilligan isn't sure exactly when Season 2 will premiere, but he's already acknowledged it won't be this year as it will still be months until they begin filming.
“We appreciate everybody’s patience,” he said. “But it ain’t gonna be The Pitt, coming back every year. I wish it would be because it’s an awesome show that’s old-school, like we used to do The X-Files [when] we’d come back the same month every year. It will not be like The Pitt. We’ll come back the same month — just the question is what year.”
Guess you can mark your calendars for November 2027 or November 2028.
Pluribus is a sci-fi drama in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness. The series stars Rhea Seehorn (Better Caul Saul) as Carol Sturka, a cynical, bestselling fantasy romance author who is one of the few people immune to a mysterious alien virus that has turned nearly everyone on Earth into a collective hive mind. The series also stars Karolina Wydra (Sneaky Pete) and Carlos-Manuel Vesga (The Hijacking of Flight 601), and guest stars Miriam Shor (American Fiction) and Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death).
The first season is rated a 98% on the Tomatometer with a critics consensus that reads: "Genuinely original science-fiction fare from television veteran Vince Gilligan, Pluribus leads Rhea Seehorn through a brave new world with plentiful returns."
The first season of Pluribus is now available to stream on Apple TV.
