RICK AND MORTY Will Meet 70-Episode Order From Adult Swim Despite Justin Roiland Controversies

There's understandably a lot of concern surrounding Rick and Morty's future following the ongoing Justin Roiland controversies, but a new report confirms the series will still deliver those 70 episodes...

Yesterday, an exposé shed more light on Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland's alleged misconduct, with a number of insiders making it clear his involvement with the Adult Swim series is minimal at best. Having had no creative input for several years, the show will only really lose his voice, though there's no denying that the void he leaves will be significant.

Along with voicing Rick and Morty, Roiland plays a number of fan-favourite supporting characters in the series, and many fans are now concerned about what his firing means for the show's future.

While it's previously been reported that Rick and Morty will continue with Roiland's roles recast, The Wrap (via Toonado.com) has confirmed that the show will fulfil its 70-episode order despite Adult Swim very publicly cutting ties with the co-creator. Considering the fact there are still 40 episodes left to produce in that, we're sure you'll all be happy to learn the series is going nowhere.

In fact, based on what we've heard about the way Roiland disrupted his fellow creatives behind the scenes, Rick and Morty is likely to benefit greatly from his continued absence.

The trade reiterates that his roles will be recast, though there's currently no word on who will be faced with the challenge of filling his shoes. There are a number of impressive impersonators on social media, but there's every chance co-creator Dan Harmon will decide to take the title duo down a slightly different route.

Work is continuing on the show's seventh season, and Scott Marder is expected to remain showrunner. Roiland and Harmon served in that capacity for the first two years before their falling out, while Mike McMahan then took over for the third and fourth seasons.

There's no official word on when Rick and Morty will return, though we do anticipate it being sometime in 2023.
