SCAVENGERS REIGN Season 2 Trailer Released Despite Netflix Declining To Renew The Sci-Fi Drama

After being canceled at Max, Scavengers Reign found a new home at Netflix, which indicated they would be open to a second season if the numbers suggested that subscribers were interested.

Despite garnering an Emmy nomination and becoming one of the most upvoted shows on Netflix, Scavengers Reign is not moving forward with a second season of the criminally underrated, animated sci-fi drama.

The news comes from the Instagram of series co-creator Joseph Bennett.

Over on Instagram (@joe_bennett_animation), Bennet wrote, "As of right now, Scavengers Reign is not being renewed for a second season."

He continued, "I wanted to let everyone know directly because I really love our fanbase, they’ve been such champions for the show, and I don’t want to leave everyone hanging."

"We’ve had to fight tooth and nail every step of the way to get this show made, starting all the way back in 2016 with the Scavengers short film to the release of the first season last year."

However, Bennett did share that he and the production crew behind Scavengers Reign still believe in the project and as such, have self-financed a season 2 teaser trailer to see if there's interest for more episodes.

In short, while Max and Netflix have passed, it sounds like Bennett and co. are shopping the series to other suitors as the co-creator went on to share, "But this is not the end. There is more story to be told, we are ready to make another season, and we produced in-house at Green Street a teaser for what was going to come in the second season."

"Thanks again to everyone who watched and supported the show."

Fans of the show are already clamoring for Bennett and his team to launch a Kickstarter campaign for a continuation but it's unclear whether they have the rights to the show or if it lies with HBO or Netflix.

Scavengers Reign premiered on HBO's Max streaming service on October 19, 2023, and was axed after its 12-episode debut season.

Netflix then secured the rights to the series and began streaming the show on its platform on May 31, 2024. A few months later, the show secured an Emmy Nomination for Best Animated Series at the 76th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Blue Eye Samurai ultimately took the award home but many fans of the animated sci-fi masterpiece were hopeful that the nomination alone would push Netflix towards renewing the show.

Scavengers Reign Synopsis: The remaining crew of a damaged interstellar freighter ship find themselves stranded on a beautiful, yet unforgiving alien planet where they must survive long enough to escape or be rescued.
