Apple TV's hit sci-fi drama Silo is set to return for its fourth and final season next July, but that may not be the last time we spend in its dystopian future. According to reliable Apple TV reporter Sigmund Judge, Apple is working on a spin-off series that could enter pre-production later this year.
Judge claims the spin-off will be based on Hugh Howey's upcoming Silo 40 book trilogy, which is expected to release next summer.
For a quick refresher, the current Silo TV series is based on Howey's original trilogy, consisting of the novels Wool, Shift, and Dust. While the Apple TV adaptation began primarily with the events of Wool, later seasons have incorporated material from the other books.
Silo 40 is said to span events from before Wool through the aftermath of Dust. Howey recently revealed in a Reddit AMA that he's still working on the trilogy. Given that the new trilogy is still being worked on, how could Apple already be developing a new series based on it?
And that's where the skepticism seems to come in. Apple TV has not officially announced any plans for spin-off, and even Hugh Howey is denying the claim, although I wouldn't expect him to confirm it anyway.
"Yo, this is news to me. So probably not true," Howey said in response to the rumor.
Now he could simply be trying to keep it a surprise, but Judge remains confident that a sequel series is currently in development. He noted in a follow-up comment that some of the main sets being used in the main series have remained since season four wrapped in March. he also added that Apple has begun hiring for the upcoming project.
Silo follows the last 10,000 people on Earth, who live in a massive underground shelter that protects them from the toxic world outside. No one knows exactly when the silo was built or why, and anyone who starts asking too many questions can face deadly consequences.
The series stars Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette, an engineer who begins searching for answers after the death of someone close to her. What starts as a murder investigation soon leads her to much bigger secrets about the silo and the world beyond it.
Season 3 expands the story by revealing what happened centuries earlier, while also continuing Juliette’s story in the present. After surviving her forced “cleaning,” Juliette returns with memory loss.
At the same time, the season explores the “Before Times” through journalist Helen Drew, played by Jessica Henwick, and Congressman Daniel Keene, played by Ashley Zukerman. As they investigate a growing conspiracy, they become caught up in events that will have catastrophic and irreversible consequences.
All three seasons of Silo are certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with the latest scoring a series-high 96%. The series is currently available to stream on Apple TV. Season 4 will premiere on July 9, 2027.
