Though early predictions weren't quite so positive, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has managed to exceed opening weekend expectations at the domestic box office.

Paramount Pictures and eOne's fantasy adventure adaptation took in $38.5 million from 3,855 North American theaters, and ticket sales are expected to remain strong thanks to positive word-of-mouth and great reviews (it currently sits at 91% on Rotten Tomatoes).

After taking in $33 million overseas, its global total is $71.5 million.

The movie has also earned a solid A- CinemaScore from audiences.

A strong start, but with a not modest $150 million budget, Honor Among Thieves is going to need sturdy legs if it hopes to launch a franchise.

I don't undestand why it costs that much to make. They don't really have any A-list stars...maaaybe Chris Pine but I doubt he demands huge paydays.

Not a big sword fantasy fan but this might be one I check out.
