HBO began early development on a Jon Snow, Game of Thrones spin-off series back in June 2022. The HBO fantasy series concluded with Kit Harrington's Jon Snow declining the Iron Throne and being exiled to live beyond the wall with The Wildlings.
With the threat of the White Walkers resolved, it will be interesting to see what HBO cooks up as the central antagonist for the spin-off.
While promoting his upcoming Dracula film, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, actor Liam Cunningham stated that he's reached out to Harrington to get some insider info about the show, and that if the price is right, perhaps Sir Davos might show up.
“I did send [Kit] a text saying, ‘Better Call Davos,'” Cunningham stated. “I haven’t heard anything back. You probably know more than I do. I wish them the best to whoever’s involved in it, and if the check is big enough, I might even show up again!”
According to George R.R. Martin, it was Harrington who pitched the idea to HBO, though Martin indicated that he'll have some involvement with the show.
In addition to the Jon Snow spinoff, there are several other Game of Thrones sequels and prequels in development, including:
- 10,000 Ships- based on the warrior Princess Nymeria, who founded Dorne
- 9 Voyages aka Sea Snake - a House of the Dragon spinoff focusing on the voyages of Corlys Velaryon
- Dunk & Egg aka The Hedge Knight - a prequel series following a young hedge knight and a boy who is secretly a Targaryen prince
- The Golden Empire - an adult animated series set in Yi Ti, a land loosely based on Imperial China
As one of the few survivors of the Game of Thrones show, Ser Davos was raised to Master of Ships in the season 8 finale and tasked with rebuilding the Royal Fleet, so it's likely that there are several opportunities for Cunningham to reprise the role in one of the other spin-offs if Harrington never texts back!
