Maisie Williams debuted as Arya Stark in the very first episode of Game of Thrones when she was just 12 years old, and would go on to become one of the most popular stars of the mega-successful HBO fantasy series over the next eight years. However, there was one aspect of playing Arya that took its toll on the actress.
During an interview with GQ, the now 24-year-old Williams revealed that she began to disassociate herself from her "tomboyish" character when she became a little older, and this led to some ill feelings. "I think that when I started becoming a woman, I resented Arya because I couldn't express who I was becoming," she said. "And then I also resented my body, because it wasn't aligned with the piece of me that the world celebrated."
Despite this, Williams is quick to point out that she "loved" her time on Game of Thrones (even though she doesn't miss it), and would actually consider reprising her role under the right circumstances.
"I’m not saying it would never happen, but I’m also not saying it in this interview so that everyone goes 'The spin-off! It's coming!' Because it's not." She added, "It has to be the right time and the right people. It has to be right in the context of all the other spin-offs and the universe of Game of Thrones. It has to be the right time for me."
As of right now, HBO doesn't have any plans to continue on from the divisive series finale (all of the spin-offs currently in development are prequels), but that doesn't mean it won't happen someday. We'd certainly be down for catching up with an older Arya as she makes her way around Westeros as a master assasin!
