HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, is set to premiere next month, and Entertainment Weekly has now debuted a series of motion covers spotlighting the show's main characters.
All of these heroes and villains will play key roles in the story, but Paddy Considine's noble King Viserys will be right in the centre as he attempts to prevent Westeros from erupting into all-out civil war.
"The mantra we had for him was that he's a good man, bad king, because he just wants to please people and keep the peace," the Dead Man's Shoes actor explains. "But also, Viserys has an ego. He's got a great tragedy in his life, but there's a part of him that's going, 'How am I going to be remembered in hundreds of years?' They don't remember peaceful kings. They don't remember good people. They remember warriors. They remember tyrants."
We're expecting another trailer for House of the Dragon very soon (by SDCC at the latest), but for now, check out the covers below.
"The prequel series finds the Targaryen dynasty at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires—real and imagined—crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins almost 193 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when King Viserys Targaryen breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm."
House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine (Peaky Blinders) as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy (Wanderlust) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Prince Daemon Targaryen.
