The Magic: The Gathering Foundations Commander decks have been tough to find since they launched earlier this month, but fans now have a way to grab the whole set without paying inflated prices. Amazon has restocked the five-deck bundle for $149.95, which works out to the $30 MSRP for each deck.

Buying the decks one at a time is a different story. Individual decks are still selling above MSRP from third-party sellers, with some climbing to around $60 or more.

A Fantasy Lineup For New Commanders

Wizards of the Coast built the Foundations Commander decks to welcome new players into Commander, the 100-card multiplayer format that has become the most popular way to play the game. Each deck focuses on one color and one classic fantasy theme, so new players can pick a style that appeals to them and start playing right away.

  • Calling All Angels (white), led by Giada, Font of Hope
  • Keen Engineering (blue), led by Sai, Master Thopterist
  • Wretched Ranks (black), led by Ghoulcaller Gisa
  • Reign of Dragons (red), led by Lathliss, Dragon Queen
  • Tramplesaurus Rex (green), led by Ghalta, Primal Hunger

The themes are some of the most iconic in fantasy. There are angels led by Giada, a thopter-building artificer in Sai, a zombie army commanded by the necromancer Ghoulcaller Gisa, a dragon horde under Lathliss and a stampede of dinosaurs led by the towering Ghalta. Each commander comes with alternate art, giving collectors another reason to pick them up.

Powerful Reprints Inside

The decks are also loaded with strong reprints. The angel deck includes Lyra Dawnbringer and Archangel of Tithes, the thopter deck has Kappa Cannoneer and the zombie deck comes with Grave Titan, one of the most feared black creatures in the game.

Dragon fans get Dragon Tempest and Scourge of Valkas, and the dinosaur deck includes Birds of Paradise and Llanowar Elves, two of the most iconic green creatures ever printed. Those cards are useful in plenty of other Commander decks, which is a big reason experienced players have been snapping these up too.

Tramplesaurus Rex Remains The Toughest Find

The green Tramplesaurus Rex deck is the most in-demand of the five, largely because of those mana reprints. A third-party seller on Amazon has listed it for $79.95, more than double what it should cost, so the bundle is the easiest way to get it at MSRP right now.

If you are looking for just one deck, it could be worth waiting for more restocks. Wizards has not shared any plans for additional print runs, but high demand for a beginner product often leads to more supply over time.

A Good Time To Jump Into Commander

For fantasy fans who have been curious about Magic, these decks are one of the easiest ways to get started. Commander games are social and casual, and a single preconstructed deck is enough to sit down at a table with friends. With five decks in the bundle, a group of new players could each pick a side and start battling right out of the box.

The decks are also a solid foundation for anyone who wants to start customizing. Swapping a few cards in and out is a big part of the fun in Commander, and each of these decks has a clear theme that makes it easy to find upgrades without breaking the bank.

Just keep in mind that prices and stock levels for Magic products can change quickly, so the bundle may not stay at MSRP for long.

Which Foundations Commander deck would you pick first, the angels, the zombies or the dinosaurs?
