Details on Guy Ritchie's next film have been revealed.
The Sherlock Holmes and Aladin director will helm a film, titled Fountain of Youth, which will star John Krasinski (A Quiet Place, Jack Ryan) and Natalie Portman (Thor: Love and Thunder).
Per Deadline, Krasinski and Portman will play, "estranged siblings who partner on a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. They must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic adventure that will change their lives — and possibly lead to immortality."
The Fountain of Youth is a legendary spring or body of water whose waters are said to restore youth to anybody who drinks or bathes in them. For millennia, it has been an intriguing notion, appearing in stories and legends from all across the world.
Ponce de León, a Spanish conqueror who looked for the Fountain of Youth in Florida in the early 16th century, is one of the most renowned instances of explorers who went on an adventure, seeking the mythical waters. While he never discovered the fabled spring, his journey influenced the tale of the Fountain of Youth in North America.
Films that previously featured the Fountain of Youth as its centerpiece include Tuck Everlasting, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and The Emperor’s New Groove sequel, Kronk’s New Groove.
James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man, Scream VI) has written the script. Deadline reports that studio execs were blown away by Vanderbilt's script. The site adds that filming is expected to commence in Q1 2024.
The film will be a repeat collaboration between Apple Original Films and Skydance, after the two studios joined forces on Mark Wahlberg's The Family Plan. The action comedy went on to become the biggest film to premiere on Apple TV+, to date.
The Family Plan skipped theaters and debuted on Apple TV+. There's no word yet on whether Fountain of Youth will do the same but that appears to be the prevailing assumption within the industry.
Aside from The Family Plan, and Fountain of Youth, other high-profile, upcoming Apple and Skydance joint venture projects include The Gorge, starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy and the action-adventure film Mayday, which will star Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh.
In addition to Apple Original Films and Skydance, the film will also be produced by Vinson Films, Project X Entertainment and Radio Silence.
Portman can currently be seen in Netflix's May December, while Krasinski co-stars alongside Ryan Reynolds in IF.
