This Saturday is World Book Day, and to mark the occasion, streaming giant Netflix decided to offer up a first look and cast reveal of Nora Twomey's upcoming animated feature, My Father's Dragon.
If the name rings a bell, it's probably because Twomey is a five-time Oscar nominee. She co-founded Cartoon Saloon, an Irish studio best-known for their animated feature films like The Breadwinners and Wolfwalkers. This new venture for the studio, however, has some pretty big names attached to appear in the film.
Jacob Tremblay, Alan Cumming, Golshifteh Farahani, Gaten Matarazzo, Dianne Wiest, Rita Moreno, Chris O'Dowd, Mary Kay Place, Judy Greer, Yara Shahidi, Jackie Earle Haley, Leighton Meester, Adam Brody, Charlyne Yi, Maggie Lincoln, Jack Smith with Whoopi Goldberg, Spence Moore II, and Ian McShane are all slated to lend their voices to the film.
Based on the Ruth Stiles Gannett book of the same name, My Father's Dragon follows Elmer, a boy who finds it difficult to cope with moving to the city and decides to run away seeking the Wild Island and a young dragon. Elmer must face off against ferocious beasts to find the lifetime friendship he seeks..
Directed by Twomey, Bonnie Curtis, Julie Lynn, and Paul Young are all on board as producers for Mockingbird Pictures and Cartoon Saloon, respectively.
