UPDATE: It's come to our attention that this is actually an old video from last year, and Zegler is not actually discussing Snow White at all here.

Rachel Zegler (Shazam! Fury of the Gods, West Side Story) is set to play the title role in Disney's upcoming live-action remake of Snow White, and recent interview clips (conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike) with the actress have not gone over particularly well with a certain online contingent.

The main criticisms seem to stem from the actress admitting that she wasn't a big fan of the original animated movie as a kid (because it scared her), and only watched it all the way through recently.

Zegler also pointed out that some aspects of the animated classic haven't really aged very well, noting that certain plot points - including the "stalker Prince" - have been updated for a modern audience. Her (obvious) joke that the Prince's scenes might not even "make the final cut" really pissed some people off.

This may seem like fairly inoffensive stuff, but some seem to feel that Zegler's attitude to the project makes her come across "narcissistic," and the backlash has not been kind.

Now, Zegler has sent out an emotional video in response to the people who took issue with her comments.

It's really unfortunate that anyone would need to share a video like this just because some people took issue with their comments about a fictional character/movie, but Zegler was evidently getting a bit sick of getting death threats for saying she wasn't the biggest Snow White fan in the worlld.

People who hurl death threats should be in jail.

I do however think that people especially in the spotlight such as her should be trained on how to make public statements. People cannot wear their politics or opinions on their sleeves and not think it will be challenged. Certainly death threats personal insults and harassment are way out of line.

@Forthas - I agree with you completely. Actors are effectively living/breathing advertisements for their movies, plays, whatever. When you are marketing to the public you want to reach and attract as many people as you can. This means sometimes you have to be a bit more reserved about personal opinions when you are talking to the public. Or if you chose not to do that then you have to accept you are going to alienate a certain percentage of the potential audience/money.

BUT, that being said, death threats are NEVER okay. And if you find yourself sending one over social politics… or politics of any sort then you need to take a good hard look at yourself and maybe seek some help.

It is okay to not agree with things others push or do. I wish people in general weren’t so close minded to open up dialogue on things they disagree on. It all too often quickly jumps to insults, threats of violence, or threats against a person’s livelihood (via “canceling”).
