THE MUMMY Star Brendan Fraser On Whether He'd Be Interested In Returning As Rick O'Connell

Brendan Fraser is enjoying something of a career resurgence thanks to roles in the likes of Doom Patrol and The Whale, but what about the franchise that brought him to the dance in the first place?

Though Stephen Sommers' The Mummy wasn't a particularly huge hit - critically or commercially - when it was released back in 1999, it has gained a massive fan-following over the years, and Indiana Jones-like (lite?) adventurer Rick O'Connell is still considered star Brendan Fraser's best-known role.

With Fraser currently enjoying a career resurgence thanks to the likes of HBO Max's Doom Patrol and Darren Aronofsky's The Whale, is there any chance he'd be interested in returning as his most famous character?

Actually, it sounds like he'd be only too happy to get back kicking some undead ass!

“I’m not opposed to it, I don’t know an actor who doesn’t want a job," he tells Deadline. "I don’t think I’ve been this famous and unsalaried at the same time in my professional life so sign me up!”

We've actually heard that both Fraser and Dwayne Johnson - who played the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns and its spin-off - have been approached about a potential revival of the franchise. Nothing solid for now, but with Fraser's star back on the rise and The Rock seemingly done with Black Adam, the timing couldn't be any better.

Personally, I would love to see him come back to this. I loved the original trilogy. The Rock, not so much, too much of a devolution to bring him back in my opinion.
