Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan has announced that fans can look forward to a sixth instalment in his series of young adult novels. Titled Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods, this will be the first time in well over a decade we've caught up with Percy, Annabeth and Grover.
Confirmed for release in September 2023, the concept was originally pitched as the premise of the upcoming Disney+ series, an idea that would have made it a sequel to the books. Instead, the streaming service is adapting Percy's story from the start, meaning this take on the property will likely be a long-term endeavour on the platform.
This isn't the only book that Riordan is working on because he's also collaborating with Mark Oshiro on The Sun and the Star. That follows Nico di Angelo, the demigod son of Hades, and his boyfriend Will Solace, the demigod son of Apollo. The two characters must travel to the Underworld to save one of their childhood friends.
With Percy Jackson and the Olympians expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2024, this book is arriving at a good time and is described as "a full-blown, canonical, stand-alone sequel starring the original trio from The Lightning Thief."
