Shortly after news broke that Disney+ will not be moving forward with a planned television series based on Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black's The Spiderwick Chronicles, it has been confirmed that the streaming platform has also decided to not move forward with Nautilus- a show based on Captain Nemo, from Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.
Like The Spiderwick Chronicles, all episodes of the 10-part Nautilus series had already wrapped filming. Paramount, who produced Nautilus and originally sold the series to Disney+, is shopping the fantastical adventures of Captain Nemo to other networks and streaming platforms.
The reversal on Nautilus is but one of many cost-cutting moves made by Disney across its streaming platform as several other series have also been canceled, while some have even disappeared from Disney+ altogether; with no alternative way to view them.
Disney+ is said to be helping the show find a new home by setting up meetings and screenings.
In the U.K.-based series, Nemo is, "an Indian Prince robbed of his birth right and family, a prisoner of the East India Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces which have taken everything from him. But once he sets sail with his ragtag crew on board the awe-inspiring Nautilus, he not only battles with his enemy, he also discovers a magical underwater world."
Shazad Latif is starring as Nemo and is joined by Georgia Flood as Humility Lucas and Thierry Frémont as Gustave Benoit. The show also stars Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Céline Menville and Kayden Price rounding out the cast.
