Earlier this week, news broke that HBO is working on a Game of Thrones sequel revolving around Kit Harington's Jon Snow. Since then, Emilia Clarke has confirmed that the actor is also playing an active role in developing the series, and creator George R. R. Martin has now chimed in to clarify what's going on with the project.

Taking to his website, Not A Blog, the author confirmed "there is a Jon Snow show in development" and revealed that its current working title is Snow

That's a cool name for the series (assuming it sticks), and Martin would go on to say that Snow has been in development for as long as Ten Thousand Ships, Sea Snake/Nine Voyages, and The Hedge Knight/Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. That means Harington has been working on this spinoff for at least a couple of years.

"I was Kit Harrington who brought the idea to us," Martin adds. "I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet, but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific."

He'd add that, "Kit's team have visited me here in Santa Fe and worked with me and my own team of brilliant, talented writer/consultants to hammer out the show." As for how far along Snow actually is, Martin explained, "All four of these successor shows are still in the script stage.  Outlines and treatments have been written and approved, scripts have been written, notes have been given, second and third drafts have been written. So far, that’s all."

We've already seen a few Game of Thrones spinoffs fail to become a reality, so it will be interesting seeing which of these make it past the finish line. HBO will no doubt be keeping a close eye on how House of the Dragon performs later this summer as that will be a good way of gauging just how interested people are in this franchise after the main show's divisive final season.

We would be shocked if Snow doesn't happen, so fingers crossed more details will be shared soon.
