There's a huge amount of excitement for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but when will we get a first look at the Disney+ series? A behind-the-scenes photo recently showed off the reboot's leads, while cameras are rolling both in Vancouver and in front of The Volume.
Author Rick Riordan is heavily involved with this small screen adaptation of his novels, and he's been sharing updates with fans for a while now. The latest pertains to a possible trailer release, though the news might not be what some of you are hoping to hear.
"Sorry, it is still way, way, way too early for that," he recently said of any possible sneak peek. "We are just in the stage of dailies and 'rough assemblages' of the early episodes, which are very much like the first drafts of my novels 0 I would never share them with anyone because they are not ready for prime time!"
"Maybe for his birthday next year, it will be a different story, but that's not a promise."
Riordan is referring to August 18, and his comments line up with what he's previously said about Percy Jackson and the Olympians likely premiering in 2024. However, with Disney+ Day taking place on September 8, we can't help but wonder if this is a misdirect from the writer. If nothing else, a brief teaser (even minus new footage) would get fans excited, as would a poster or stills.
We think something will be revealed, anyway, and with shooting taking place until at least January, those looking forward to the series will need to be somewhat patient for any sort of proper first look.
Based on Disney Hyperion's best-selling book series, the series tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who's just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt.
With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.
Stay tuned for updates on Percy Jackson and the Olympians!
