THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER SDCC Trailer Reveals More Epic Action And A Familiar Fiery Foe!

Prime Video brought The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to Comic-Con earlier today, and we now have yet another trailer for the highly anticipated TV series.

There's a lot to unpack here, though it feels like we're only scratching the surface of what's to come in a story that will span five seasons. Noteworthy moments include Galadriel seemingly making her first contact with a Palantír (an orb that shows glimpses of the future) and Sauron starting to make his presence felt across Middle-earth.

However, one particularly cool reveal right at the end of this latest sneak peek shows the Balrog's fiery return; remember, that creature was the cause of Gandalf the Grey's apparent demise in The Fellowship of the Ring, and it appears Moria is once again in trouble.

Needless to say, we can't wait to find out how else this series will inform what we saw in Peter Jackson's beloved trilogy. In fairness, though, it also looks set to carve out its own unique place in this franchise's history with heaps of new characters and locations we've previously only visited on the page.

The show, adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's iconic series of novels, takes place during the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. This story is set to follow a cast made up of established and new characters as they "confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth" (a.k.a. Sauron).

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The series boasts a massive ensemble, while J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay are set to serve as showrunners. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premieres on September 2, later this year, so keep checking back here for updates as we have them.
