A lot of DC fans were heartbroken when James Gunn confirmed that Henry Cavill's tenure as Superman has now come to an end, but it did give fans of Netflix's The Witcher hope that the actor might return to the role of Geralt for season 4.
The streamer recently announced that season 3 of the fantasy adventure series would be Cavill's last, with Liam Hemsworth stepping in to play the titular monster-hunter for season 4 and beyond. The news that Cavill had officially parted ways with the Man of Steel led to renewed campaigning for the Enola Holmes star to jump back into the lead role, but it was always a highly unlikely scenario.
Now, we have confirmation that Hemsworth will be holding on to those swords!
TV Line was told that "plans for The Witcher Season 4 will not be affected by news of Cavill’s Superman run ending," while a Netflix rep has also informed Gizmodo that things remain on track.
Again, Cavill returning as Geralt of Rivia was always the longest of long shots. Even if he wanted to, Hemsworth has likely signed a contract at this stage. Plus, we don't even know for sure that he decided to part ways with the role just so he could play Supes.
Previous reports have indicated that Cavill may have been unhappy with the direction the series has been going in for a while because he felt the showrunners/writers weren't sticking close enough to the source material for his liking.
Whatever the case may be, fans are going to have to get used to the prospect of Hemsworth taking up where Cavill left off!
