Will We See An R-Rated JURASSIC WORLD Movie? Director Colin Trevorrow Responds!

The Jurassic World trilogy recently wrapped up with Dominion, so what comes next for the franchise is something of a mystery to us. Could it head down an R-Rated route? Here's Colin Trevorrow's take...

The Jurassic World trilogy has earned billions of dollars at the box office, so the franchise has definitely bounced back from those disappointing Jurassic Park sequels. Unfortunately, reviews for Dominion were somewhat tepid, so now feels like a good time to take this series to some exciting new places.

The Battle at Big Rock short proved there are different approaches that can be taken with these dinosaurs, and we'd love to see a horror movie set in this world, for example.

That could be R-Rated, of course, as could any adult-orientated take on the Jurassic series. Even upping the violence and gore would be welcomed by many, but filmmaker Colin Trevorrow wasn't quite so sure when Collider asked if that's a viable next step for the iconic franchise.

"It's hard to answer that question. I don't know," he admitted. "I do know that if we made 'A Quiet Place,' if we made a hard R really scary version, potentially very contained, I know I'd want to see that movie. If a parent took their kid to that movie and horrified them for life, I know that would be a problem."

"Look, I don't want to put any cuffs on whoever has a vision for this in the future. All I know is that people love dinosaurs, people love movies with dinosaurs in them, and I know people love the world that ['Jurassic Park' author] Michael Crichton created," Trevorrow continued. "The reason why there are dinosaurs and humans in the same place, that sci-fi idea, it's a brilliant idea. From there, I feel like someone else should come to us."

Trevorrow also wasn't keen on the prospect of a crossover with the Fast & Furious franchise, but he at least seems open to exploring the Jurassic franchise with an R-Rating.

That's an approach with a lot of potential, and something along the lines of A Quiet Place could be absolutely epic. There's even a chance that we could head into the future, especially now that dinosaurs roam the Earth freely. A post-apocalyptic setting could be fun, right?

What are your future hopes for the Jurassic franchise?
