Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is a filmmaker who has faced "creative differences" on more than one occasion. She walked away from Thor: The Dark World after butting heads with Marvel Studios, and all signs point to Rogue Squadron not becoming a reality at Lucasfilm either now (even after that splashy announcement video).
Recently, it's been reported that Jenkins clashed with Warner Bros. over her Wonder Woman 3 plans, refusing to change her vision for the threequel after receiving notes from the studio.
While we've always assumed the director has had a run of bad luck in Hollywood, a new report suggests she might be the problem. This comes from scooper Jeff Sneider on John Rocha's The Hot Mic with him explaining, "I’ve heard some things about Patty Jenkins. I’ve heard she’s a nightmare."
"I’m sorry, I hate to be the guy who’s calling a woman a name, I get it, oh my God! But listen, I’ve said that about countless male directors, too," he continues. "I’ve heard that everything that she turned in with Wonder Woman 3 was like, you know, a mess. I heard [that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron] was a mess."
The plan had been for Rogue Squadron to be released at the end of next year, though it fell apart for reasons which still aren't fully clear to us. With Jenkins supposedly getting defensive when Warner Bros. criticised her Wonder Woman 3 ideas and refusing to even talk with DC Studios' James Gunn and Peter Safran, we can see where Sneider is coming from here.
Rogue Squadron was a Star Wars movie that had real potential, and it appeared to be a passion project for Jenkins. The fact it's fallen by the wayside is a real shame, as is the fact Wonder Woman 3 might not happen. However, after watching Wonder Woman 1984, we appreciate there are many of you who might be relieved by that news!
