It's now been over three years since we last sat down in theaters to watch a Star Wars movie, and while the franchise has found great success on television, Lucasfilm still can't get its act together when it comes to the big screen.

Things have started looking up lately, though, with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins confirming she's still attached to Rogue Squadron. Shawn Levy (Deadpool 3) and Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), meanwhile, are among those recently attached to upcoming movies.

Whether those happen is another matter, of course, though both are expected to be set after the sequel trilogy.

Lindelof is writing the movie alongside Justin Britt-Gibson (Into the Badlands), while Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) is attached to direct. According to scooper Daniel Richtman, fans should expect characters from the Star Wars sequels to appear, hopefully meaning we'll find out what came next for the likes of Rey Skywalker and Finn.

After all, neither of their stories ended on a particularly satisfying note, though it's unclear whether these characters are as major as that or some of the supporting players who will simply reappear to build connectivity across the Star Wars franchise.

Interestingly, it's pointed out that the movie will have a new set of leads, with a woman of colour serving as the main protagonist. With that in mind, it would be wise not to get too excited about the possibility of this project serving as some sort of epilogue to The Rise of Skywalker that will make up for the divisive creative decisions made by J.J. Abrams.

The Star Wars franchise isn't finding the level of success it really should in theaters, but Lucasfilm is finally taking steps to change that. Kathleen Kennedy's time in charge has been met with its fair share of controversies, though a slate of really good movies could go a long way in finally making fans happy.

As always, keep checking back here for updates!

Since the main movies have focused on Jedi, this could deal with a student of Rey's new Jedi Order.
