THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Director Taika Waititi Isn't Sure His STAR WARS Movie Will Actually End Up Being Made

After making it clear that his planned Star Wars movie won't be released next year, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi now makes it clear the project has yet to receive the green light...

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy remains a divisive figure among Star Wars fans. While much of the hatred she receives is, sadly, due to her gender, there's no denying that the executive has made some significant missteps these past few years.

Among them is making promises that don't pan out; new Star Wars trilogies from Rian Johnson and David Benioff and Dan Weiss have failed to materialise, while Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron has crashed and burned with no explanation. At Star Wars Celebration, Kennedy confirmed that Taika Waititi's movie set in this Galaxy Far, Far Away will be released in 2023, though it's since become clear that won't happen.

Doing the rounds to promote Thor: Love and Thunder, the filmmaker has said on numerous occasions that he's still trying to crack the story, and now casts doubt on the project happening at all.

"I’m trying to write the 'Star Wars' idea at the moment," Waititi tells The New York Post. "I’ve got to see how that goes, because once I submit it, that might determine when it gets made or if it gets made, even." We've seen Kennedy clash with filmmakers (see: Phil Lord and Chris Miller), so if his vision doesn't match Lucasfilm's, there is a chance it won't become a reality.

We'll have to wait and see.

As things stand, the future of Star Wars on the big screen remains as uncertain as ever. For whatever reason, Lucasfilm seems to be struggling with how to tell stories in theaters, a surprise when Disney+ has delivered hits like The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi

While it's definitely a shame that we're not enjoying this franchise on the biggest screens possible, there's a lot to look forward to on streaming as Andor, The Mandalorian season 3, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew are all on the way.

Keep checking back here for updates on the Star Wars franchise's future!

Since it hasn't been completely written yet, this seems logical. Like, duh & stuff.

Lol! Makes sense. Considering that Kennedy couldn’t handle Lord and Miller’s bombastic filmmaking, I’m not sure how she will survive Taika’s

As a writer myself I understand the difficulty to work on such a big licence. I mean every time you come up with interesting ideas of your own there's this group of people telling you "you can't do that". Come on, just let the man do his thing and don't fire him for 'different creative visions'. I mean even George Lucas directed Episode I and II, which were very far from being perfect movies, and they were HIS babies. So frustrating.
