20th Television has released an intriguing teaser for their upcoming sci-fi horror series, Alien: Earth. Serving as a prequel to the original Alien film, the series is set two years before the events of Ridley Scott's 1979 classic and aims to delve into what transpired on Earth before the xenomorph threat became a universal nightmare.
Although an official premiere date has not yet been announced, the series is scheduled to debut this summer. It will be available on FX on Hulu for viewers in the United States, while international audiences can catch it on Disney+ via Star. With the Super Bowl just around the corner, there is speculation that a full-length trailer may be unveiled during the highly anticipated event, given that this year’s game will air on Fox.
Details about the storyline remain largely under wraps. However, the basic premise teases a high-stakes adventure: “When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a motley group of tactical soldiers stumble upon a shocking discovery that puts them face-to-face with humanity’s greatest threat.” From the teaser, it appears that the arrival of the iconic xenomorphs on Earth is imminent, setting the stage for catastrophic events. The series may also explore how this deadly encounter catches the attention of the infamous Weyland-Yutani Corporation, whose ambitions have been central to the franchise’s overarching narrative.
The cast for Alien: Earth is stacked with talent. Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling, Pistol), Alex Lawther (The End of the F**ing World, Black Mirror*), and Timothy Olyphant (Justified, The Mandalorian) lead the ensemble. They’re joined by Essie Davis (The Babadook, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries), Samuel Blenkin (The Witcher, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Babou Ceesay (Guerrilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), David Rysdahl (Oppenheimer, Nine Days), Adrian Edmondson (The Young Ones, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger, Hostel Daze), and Jonathan Ajayi (Noughts + Crosses, Here Out West). Rounding out the cast are Erana James (The Wilds, Southland’s Home), Lily Newmark (Sex Education, Cursed), Diem Camille (The Good Doctor, Billy the Kid), and Moe Bar-El (The Boys, The Expanse).
Noah Hawley, acclaimed for his work on Fargo and Legion, serves as the showrunner. Hawley has confirmed that Alien: Earth will align more closely with the original Alien films in terms of tone and storyline, distinguishing itself from the recent Ridley Scott-directed prequels. With a compelling narrative, an impressive cast, and Hawley at the helm, the series is shaping up to be a thrilling addition to the Alien universe.
