Storytellers and artists often use a number of mediums to share their vision. As comic books and graphic novels have increased in popularity over the years, we are seeing an increase in comic companions to many forms of media.

Some examples of successful franchises that led to comic book spin-offs include Smallville, Buffy, Rick and Morty, Spongebob Squarepants, Adventure Time  and those are just the ones based on television shows.

Similarly, some artists like to create their stories in two mediums simultaneously, such as Omar Mora. This month, he will be presenting and releasing his second graphic novel/novel hybrid companion, Ancient Explorers: The Lost City of Peru, at San Diego International Comic-Con.

According to Mora, "I'm so proud of this book. Ancient Explorers is a novel that I always wanted to produce as a comic book. However, when the pandemic hit, the economy hit as well, and I wasn't sure if the finances would be in place to do the full graphic novel. So we decided to do it as a hybrid. And I'm happy I did it that way. You'll get lost if you don't read the comic book pages within the novel. The comic pages are not just illustrations but part of the story. And I think that makes it very interesting and cool. It's such a fun and entertaining story."

Looks like they did their research. I see that it looks like they are using the "LUZIA"
type of ethnicity/race to portray the people of that Lost City. Which were pretty much Black Pacific Islanders. Interesting move.
