Cillian Murphy Picks INTERSTELLAR As The One Christopher Nolan Movie He Wishes He Was In

Of the twelve Christopher Nolan films to date, Irish actor Cillian Murphy has been in exactly half.

So being such a frequent collaborator, what's the one Nolan film that Muphy's not in that he wishes The Dark Knight Rises director had come calling?

When asked this question by the Independent, Murphy gave a somewhat surprising answer.

I adore Interstellar just because I find it so emotional,” the Oppenheimer star stated.

I remember seeing it in the cinema when I had little kids. It just had a big impact on me. It broke my heart. I love watching his films when I’m not in them because you don’t have to freak out about the size of your ears, or whatever.”

Murphy has previously collaborated with Nolan on all three of his Batman films, along with Oppenheimer, Inception, and Dunkirk.

That leaves Following, Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, Tenet, and the aforementioned Interstellar as Murphy's options.

Most film critics and purists view Memento as Nolan's best film to date after The Dark Knight, making Murphy's answer somewhat surprising.

In fact, Interstellar is one of Nolan's more divisive films and is one of the few to be rated under 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Still, Murphy's choice makes sense with the added context of his explanation. In Interstellar, the audience sees NASA pilot Joseph Cooper (played by Matthew McConaughey) trapped outside of space and time, watching his orphaned daughter grow up without him. As a new father, those scenes probably hit Murphy pretty hard.

With our time on Earth coming to an end, a team of explorers undertakes the most important mission in human history: traveling beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars.

From acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan (“The Dark Knight” films, “Inception”), “Interstellar” stars Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Oscar winner Anne Hathaway (“Les Miserables”), Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty”), Bill Irwin (“Rachel Getting Married”), Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn (“Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”), and Oscar winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”). The main cast also includes Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, David Gyasi, Mackenzie Foy and Topher Grace.
