The Ultramarines have a lot more company. Focus Entertainment revealed yesterday that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has crossed 15 million players, thanking fans for spreading the word and welcoming the newest recruits to the fight against the Tyranids and the forces of Chaos.
The number comes from "15 million unique players since the game's launch," as listed in a new financial update from Focus's parent company PULLUP Entertainment. It counts everyone who has played, including those who tried it through subscription services.
A Third Year Of War
The big driver behind the latest wave is the Year 3 update, which arrived at the start of this month. PULLUP says it sparked a fresh round of player engagement, with Space Marine 2 reaching its highest weekly activity on Steam since October 2024. CEO Geoffroy Sardin credited Year 3 with "a new acquisition cycle and record engagement on Steam."
For a game that came out in September 2024, that is a remarkable second wind. Developer Saber Interactive has kept the game growing with free updates, extra Operations missions, PvP modes and new gear, and those efforts are clearly paying off with both returning players and newcomers.
A Steady March To 15 Million
The game has been gathering recruits at an impressive rate. It crossed 7 million players in June 2025 and reached 12 million at the end of April this year, when Focus also confirmed that live support would continue into a third year with more free updates and DLC.
That support has given fans plenty of reasons to come back. Recent additions included an Iron Hands Chapter Pack with a Techmarine Champion, a new Operation set on Kadaku where squads investigate Chaos activity near a Cadian base, and a Siege mode overhaul that added the Hive Tyrant and the Vortex Beast as bosses. Players can also now share some wargear across classes, so a Tactical Marine can finally wear a cape or an Iron Halo, as long as the lore allows it.
The Story So Far
For anyone who has not yet stepped into the power armor, Space Marine 2 follows Lieutenant Demetrian Titus, the hero of the 2011 original. After a century in the Deathwatch, Titus returns to the Ultramarines as a Primaris Space Marine and is thrown into the Imperium's war against the Tyranid swarm, with Chaos lurking behind the scenes.
The game captures the scale of Warhammer 40,000 better than almost any other adaptation. Hordes of Tyranids pour over walls and through ruins by the hundreds, and the brutal melee executions make every encounter feel like a page out of the grim darkness of the far future. It is a big reason the game has reached so many players outside of the usual tabletop fan base.
The co-op Operations mode, which runs alongside the campaign from different squads' perspectives, has been the main focus of ongoing support and is where most of the new Year 3 content can be found.
Space Marine 3 And Beyond
Saber is already working on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, which was announced as the next chapter in the series. With Space Marine 2 still drawing in new players, the sequel will have a huge audience waiting for it when it eventually arrives.
PULLUP's second quarter revenue came in at 57 million euros, up 7.0 percent, with the back catalogue climbing 8.1 percent. Space Marine 2 remains one of the company's most important titles, and the 15 million milestone shows the Warhammer 40,000 universe has a strong audience in video games.
Space Marine 2 is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and PC.
