This ain't no walk in the park!

Primitive War looks like a mixture of Kong: Skull Island and the second Jurassic Park film, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Oozing with classic B-movie flair, the film is set for a limited theatrical release on August 21, thanks to Fathom Entertainment.

The R-rated film, adapted from Ethan Pettus's novel, thrusts viewers into a savage 1968 Vietnam, where a search-and-rescue squad faces deadly dinosaurs.

Directed by Luke Sparke (Occupation: Rainfall, Scurry), the film blends wartime chaos with primal terror, promising intense action, gore, and psychological dread.

Featuring creatures like T-rex and Utahraptors, Primitive War explores the brutal toll of combat when nature's deadliest predators are added to the battlefield.

Starring Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), and Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), the indie Australian production made its mark at SDCC 2025 with a buzzworthy trailer (see below).

Anthony Ingruber (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Aaron Glenane (Interceptor, Danger Close), Carlos Sanson Jr (Bump, Legacies), Ana Thu Nguyen (Mortal Kombat 2), Adolphus Waylee (Nautilus), Richard Brancatisano (The Messenger), Marcus Johnson (Talk to Me), and Jake Ryan (Savage, Underbelly) also star.

Primitive War hits select theaters in the U.S. and Australia on August 21, 2025, and runs through the 25th, courtesy of Fathom Entertainment. However, previous history states that if the film performs exceptionally well and generates strong demand, Fathom may extend its theatrical run for additional days or even weeks in select locations.

Primitive War may not be a direct clone of Jurassic Park, but its modern-dinosaur premise clearly nods to the iconic franchise.

What sets it apart, though, is its gritty Vietnam War backdrop. Instead of science-gone-wrong adventure, it dives deep into military survival horror, emphasizing brutal violence, psychological trauma, and a pulpy, visceral tone.

While the JP franchise evokes wonder and chaos, Primitive War is a genre-blending nightmare that explores the terror of facing prehistoric predators amid the fog of war.

From director Luke Sparke comes PRIMITIVE WAR based on the popular novel 'The Primitive War' by Ethan Pettus. Vietnam. 1968. A recon unit known as Vulture Squad is sent to an isolated jungle valley to uncover the fate of a missing Green Beret platoon.

They soon discover they are not alone.

Sparke Films in association with Let it be Entertainment and producers Carly Sparke, Carmel Imrie, Luke Sparke, Geoff Imrie and Alex Becconsall presents PRIMITIVE WAR.

An action-packed war film that pits battle-hardened soldiers against the greatest predators that ever walked the earth.
