CinemaCon attendees were treated to the first footage from Avatar: The Way of Water, but if you watched Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness this weekend, then you'll have seen the impressive teaser trailer on the big screen by now. Disney is expected to release it online sometime this week, but a 4K copy of the jaw-dropping sneak peek has found its way online over the weekend.
Clearly, Disney wanted audiences to experience this preview for the first time on a big screen, but with a week to wait before it does debut online, it was inevitable that something would be leaked.
We won't be sharing the footage here, but if you're keen to check it out, it's not too hard to find!
UPDATE: It's now been officially released, you can see it by clicking here!
It's a little surprising that Disney decided to make the Avatar: The Way of Water trailer exclusive to theaters; while James Cameron is a big proponent of the big screen experience (and there's no denying a movie like this is best viewed that way), low-res copies of this footage has been doing the rounds on YouTube for nearly a week. That's really not the best way for anyone to have seen the Avatar sequel for the first time, meaning a simultaneous online debut would have been welcomed by many fans.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
Avatar: The Way of Water arrives in theaters worldwide on December 16th, 2022.
