"It is time to stop seeing, it is time to stop speaking, it is time to listen."

As promised, Neon has debuted the full trailer for David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future, which is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.

This red band glimpse into Cronenberg's nightmarish world contains freaky body-horror footage, as Viggo Mortensen's performance artist puts his mutating organs on display. A recent report indicated that the mysterious sci-fi horror flick is likely to cause a significant amount of “chaos and controversy,” with the last 20 minutes, in particular, expected to cause "walk-outs, fainting and real panic attacks."

Looking at this trailer, we're not a bit surprised! Check it out for yourselves below along with a new poster.

The film is set "in a distant future where humans have evolved beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, altering their biological makeup. In this setting, a performance artist named Saul Tenser embraces Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, sprouting new and unexpected organs in his body. Removing those organs becomes a new kind of theater, one that earns a following, as well as the attention of the government."

It really doesn't get any more Cronenbergian than that!

Viggo Mortensen will re-team with Cronenberg after starring in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. He'll be joined by Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar and Lihi Kornowski.

Cannot say that this is of interest to me but the cast is tight especially Léa Seydoux and Viggo Mortensen. Some of the imagery reminds me of another film that included Scott Speedman called Anamorph (2007).

In less gruesome news...

@Forthas - I'm very cautious about that Dune spin-off. It seems like it could get way into it's own head like the later Dune books or be treated as a more standard political story about the Bene Geserit sniveling their way into power. It seems like a project that could be tricky to find the right balance with given what the Bene Gesserit are & how they operate.

@1stDalek - I know what you mean! I am thrilled that Legendary is guiding this project, however Warner Brothers has this knack for pulling stories in stupid directions. I think the Bene Geserit since it is not apparently based on any written media, if they are smart it could help set up the Dune universe beyond the books which seem to get more "out there" as it moves along. I think they should be making a rough outline of where this story is heading ten years out. PLEASE don't make the same mistake as Star Wars and DC Films. This franchise is off to an epic start.

I expected a lot more carnage from the red band trailer, it seems they're being cautious of leaving the gore for the cinema.
