There's a lot of excitement for Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa, especially after Charlize Theron's post-apocalyptic warrior left a lasting impact on fans of the franchise.

The 2015 movie was the first Mad Max film since 1985's Beyond Thunderdome, but the wait for Furioisa - while still just shy of a decade - will have been nowhere near as long. George Miller is back at the helm, of course, while The Super Mario Bros. Movie star Anya Taylor-Joy will take over from Theron as a younger version of her character.

During a recent interview with Total Film, the actress shared some new details on the "epic" movie and revealed how Furiosa ultimately differs from Fury Road

"The main thing that George and I spoke about was that Fury Road is a road movie. You know, it takes place over, I think, three days: getting somewhere, and then turning around, and coming back," Taylor-Joy explains. "And this is an epic."

"This takes place over a long period of time, and you kind of get to know [Furiosa] better in that way. I love that character so much. That whole experience was mind-boggling, and George is the best. I hope that [people] enjoy it."

While some set photos found their way on while cameras were rolling on the movie, an official first look has yet to be revealed. However, as the prequel is still over a year away, patience is likely to be key when it comes to a teaser trailer!

"As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus," reads the movie's synopsis. "Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."

As well as Taylor-Joy, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Goran D. Kleut, Quayden Bayles, Angus Sampson, and Shakriya Tarinyawat.

Furiosa is set to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
