We don't need to tell you that Mad Max: Fury Road was besieged by a whole host of behind-the-scenes issues, including a feud between its stars and adverse weather that halted shooting multiple times. When the upcoming prequel movie, Furiosa, was being shot, we heard various reports that it too had some problems, but they were nowhere near as bad as we'd been led to believe.

Despite that, comments from star Anya Taylor-Joy during a recent interview with The Playlist have made it clear the cast and crew still faced their fair share of challenges.

"Oh goodness, no," the Furiosa actress responded when asked if filming was all smooth sailing. "I sort of make a joke, and I say this to George, any place there’s a drought, just send George Miller to make a movie there, and it will pour. So, we had torrential rain and flooding for the entirety of the shoot. And that’s quite intense when you’re making a desert film where there’s no water."

"But to his credit, I’ve never seen somebody that is so dedicated and so present. We’re shooting three units. He is on all of them, and he never went down. I saw a lot of things that said that we had shut down production or production was delayed, and none of that was true. We kept going through everything, through COVID, through the rain. George did not go down. And that’s quite important to me that people know that because he is really incredible."

"And when he had COVID, he showed up to set on an iPad with a little hat and a jacket, and we continued to shoot," Taylor-Joy continued. "I need people to know that that’s his dedication level because we didn’t once shut down in the whole six and a half months that we were going."

While the actress couldn't give away too much about the spin-off, she did use one word to describe what fans can expect: "Epic."

We can't wait for an official first look at Furiosa, but that could be a while off given that the movie is a little under two years away. In the meantime, you can find photos of The New Mutants star transformed into the character previously played by Charlize Theron by clicking here.

"As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus," reads the movie's synopsis. "Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."

Furiosa is set to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
