FURIOSA Star Anya Taylor-Joy Says MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Spin-Off Is Her "Dirtiest, Bloodiest" Role To Date

Anya Taylor-Joy is a rising star in Hollywood, and stellar performances in the likes of Last Night in Soho and The Queen's Gambit have singled her out as a true force to be reckoned with on screen. Needless to say, we have no doubt she'll do a great job taking over from Charlize Theron in next year's Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Furiosa.

The actress recently wrapped shooting the spin-off, and there's a lot of excitement among fans to see what she brings to the table as Imperator Furiosa.

Talking to IndieWire, Taylor-Joy reflected on the unique experience of making the movie.

"I’ve been on a different planet for the last seven months," she tells the site. "I think I need to sit down and attempt to try and digest what’s happened over the last seven months. But I’m incredibly, incredibly proud of it, and so proud of all of the people I got to work with, and just the amount of love and effort and work that went into it, I’m excited to see it."

"It’s the dirtiest and the bloodiest I have ever been, which is saying something, genuinely saying something. Any time I get to be dirty or bloody and not perfectly prim and pretty, I’m just having a ball, that’s where I feel most comfortable," the actress continues. "So yeah, ‘Furiosa’ was definitely right up my street."

Funnily enough, Taylor-Joy would go on to say that, despite playing a character best known for her impressive driving skills, she doesn't actually know how to drive a car.

"I don’t actually have a license, so I can’t drive. I can’t on a highway, I can’t parallel park, but if you need me to do a juicy 180 in a truck, I can do that and not hit the camera people, which is great," she says with a laugh. "[In] terms of first cars, I think I’m quite spoiled in the fact that they were built by the ‘Mad Max’ art department."

A first look at Furiosa has to be somewhere on the horizon, though we don't necessarily expect that to land until well into 2023, unfortunately. It sounds like the cast had a great time making this one, anyway, and it's hardly a stretch to assume filmmaker George Miller will deliver something special with this movie.

Furiosa is set to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
