Zack Snyder officially announced that production was underway on Rebel Moon last month, and Deadline is now reporting that several new cast members have been added to the already very impressive ensemble.
Ed Skrien (Deadpool, Alita: Battle Angel) is set to replace Rupert Friend, who was forced to part ways with the movie due to a scheduling conflict. Details in this role are under wraps, but his character is believed to be the main antagonist.
Cleopatra Coleman (Dopesick), Fra Fee (Hawkeye), and Rhian Rees (Nope) are also on board, joining the previously announced Djimon Hounsou, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Charlie Hunnam, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, and Sky Yang
Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond, Atomic Blonde, The Mummy) will play the lead: "A young woman with a mysterious past who seeks out warriors from neighbouring planets to help a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy take a stand against the tyrannical Regent Balisarius."
Snyder has often said that if he was given the opportunity to helm a Star Wars movie, he'd pay homage to the great Akira Kurosawa with an epic space adventure inspired by Seven Samurai, and it sounds like he'll get the chance to tell his story in a different galaxy far, far away. Snyder also co-wrote the project with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, and will produce alongside Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller for The Stone Quarry.
