After directing the 2014 animated short film, Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker, Blink-182 guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge is back with his first full-length directorial effort in the upcoming sci-fi, horror drama, Monsters of California. Check out the exciting new trailer below.
Based on the footage, it appears a California skater-bro and his two stoner friends stumble across something completely unexpected when they discover his dad's old classified government files.
While it's not explicitly made clear in the trailer, the film looks to be proposing the idea that the supernatural myths of legend are all simply aliens from another world. Of course, this could also just be a cleverly constructed fake out for marketing purposes, so the actual plot of the film may not be discovered until it premieres on October 6.
After releasing a teaser over a year ago that sparked a modicum of interest, the new trailer is making sci-fi enthusiasts and critics alike sit up and take notice. The new trailer is giving off strong Cabin in the Woods vibes.
Tom DeLonge directed the film and co-wrote the script alongside Ian Miller and Ben Kull.
In a press release, DeLonge remarked, "The film takes my fascination with the unexplained, combines it with the skate culture I grew up a part of, and tosses in my ridiculous sense of humor that millions got to witness during my Blink-182 days. In recent years, I’ve had the good fortune of helping the government remember how much they care about UFOs through the work we do at To The Stars, and it’s that experience which helped inspire this movie. I can’t wait for audiences to see the f#^ked up fun adventure these kids go on."
In the statement above, DeLonge is referencing his To the Stars... Academy of Arts & Sciences, which he co-founded in 2017 as a multidiscipline public benefit corporation with an interest in all things sci-fi.
The cast for Monsters of California includes Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers, Sleepy Hollow), Jack Samson (Zodiac, The Metrosexual), Jack Lancaster (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Shining Girls), Jared Scott (13 Reasons Why), Camille Kostek (Free Guy), and Richard Kind (Mad About You, Argo, A Serious Man).
Screen Media has given the film an October 6 release for theaters and On-Demand.
