A final trailer for Predator: Badlands was released last week, but an international version featuring quite a bit of new footage has now leaked online (we assume it'll be officially released soon).
The trailer does include some footage from the domestic teaser, but there are also plenty of new shots of Dek and Thia struggling to survive attacks from various creatures on the incredibly perilous planet they find themselves stranded on.
During a recent interview with Empire, director Dan Trachtenberg explained why he wanted to make Badlands instead of moving on to a direct Prey sequel straight away.
“You immediately think: ‘Prey 2’,” he said. “But with sequels, people sometimes get so caught up going, ‘This could happen next,’ they never stop to think, ‘Should it happen next?’ Prey was special because it was this big idea that hadn’t existed before. I wanted the next thing to be that, too. In general, I’m always looking for: what could happen only in this movie?” The result is, he says, “a kind of buddy-comedy,” a genre-switch from his previous live-action entry due to the pairing of Dek and Thia. “Prey was a solo survival tale; this is a relationship story.”
Predator: Badlands is helmed by returning director Dan Trachtenberg (Prey, 10 Cloverfield Lane) and marks the franchise’s highly anticipated return to the big screen with a story that expands and redefines the Predator Universe.
Set in the future on a deadly remote planet, Badlands follows a young Predator outcast (played by newcomer Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) who finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Elle Fanning) as he embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
Produced by John Davis, Dan Trachtenberg, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt and Brent O’Connor, Predator: Badlands opens exclusively in movie theaters on November 7 in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, RealD (3D), Cinemark XD, 4DX, ScreenX and premium screens everywhere.
